International Dance Day was founded in 1982 by the Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute. It is celebrated worldwide every year on the 29th of April. The goal of the International Dance Day Message is to celebrate Dance, to revel in the universality of this art form, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together with a common language – Dance.

Dance is a common language that unites us all on some level, and as we explore cultural dances, we discover a commonality between many cultures. The value of dance as a crucial form of cultural expression has been evident for centuries. Ballet Austin celebrates dance that is deeply rooted in culture and promotes the opportunity for the people of Austin to be able to identify with their culture through dance.
