Las Lunas Locas, a community of self-identified women based in Los Angeles, Califas who write, right and rite, will be in Austin, for a two-night event September 11–12.
We meet every Monday night in Highland Park at Ave 50 Studio, however as we will be on the road we will be holding our circle in Austin and invite the community in joining us to commemorate the significance of this particular day.
We are honored to be hosted by Red Salmon Arts, home of Resistencia Books, and humbled that we will get to share palabra with local poets and writers.
Come. It will be an extraordinary evening of sharing and circle-making.
Featured Lunas:
Alexandria Marie Trubatisky is a nurse practitioner, a tree hugger, a yoga enthusiast, and banger of all things percussive. When she’s not cuddling with her fur babies or eating spoonfuls of chocolate frosting from the tub, she explores the healing power of writing from and for the soul.
Karineh Mahdessian is a community social worker interested in people and art. she loves tacos. haikus. basketball. chess. large earrings.
MujerAgua Luna aka Nancy Olmos is a Queer Xicana Bibliotecaria (Librarian) born and raised in South East Los Angeles. She now calls Long Beach home; where she and her pitbull, Luna, share a casita. She enjoys making loose leaf tea blends, reading stories written by people of color, writes erotica and pieces about heartbreak and loves cooking (especially vegetarian and vegan Mexican meals.)
Sophia Rivera is a Chicana writer, scholar and educator from Northwest Pasadena. A proud Luna Loca, she is also the co-facilitator of Las Lunas Locas. Sophia believes in the sacred power of telling stories, Selenas Forevers, that lunas locas are magic, and poetry saves lives.
We will have anthologies for purchase ($20 cash or Venmo/Paypal).
